CHEAP WINES FROM ABROAD DESTROY OUR WINE GROWERS

Slovak honest winegrowers are still bothered by cheap wines from abroad. The current parliament also wants to help Slovak winemakers. Juraj Gyimesi, Member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for the OĽaNO movement, indicated that the problem with cheap foreign wines should be solved by greater regulation in this business. For example, excise duty and wine stamping could be introduced. A higher subsidy per kilogram of grapes grown in Slovakia could be introduced. However, according to the Member, it is important to finally introduce controls on wine quality by the financial administration. The customs authorities confirm that there is no control of the wines. There is no record of how much wine is from abroad.

The deputy does not oppose the approval of a law that will consider counterfeiting wine a crime. The Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Slovakia does not consider the introduction of excise duty or wine stamping to be appropriate measures.

We will still have to wait for what the new legislation will look like. A working group is currently working at the Ministry of Agriculture on an amendment to the Act on Viticulture and Enology.

We just have to believe that the introduced greater regulation in Slovak winemaking will be in favor of Slovak winemakers. Greater regulation has seldom led to problems being solved. Rather, it has led to more bureaucracy, which we have been trying to reduce since the establishment of our state. It's just that he's still not doing well.
